I was involved in the live performances of Lord of the Rings at the Royal Albert Hall. I was playing cimbalom with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
I played on all the films in the Lords of the Rings Trilogy. I played hammered dulcimer as part of the Hobbit band for the scene where Gandalf rides into the Shire. I remember the first recording session at a Abbey Road studios very well because it was the 11th of September 2001.
I recently played solo dulcimer on the soundtrack of the movie Hercules. The music by Fernando Velasquez was recorded in Abbey Road 2.
I am here at the Aldwych for a limited run of Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies playing percussion and second MD. There are five band members playing the score by Stephen Warbeck calls for cimbalom/percussion, percussion, guitar, clarinet and harp/recorder.
This is the stage band in The Winter’s Tale a ballet by Chris Wheeldon and Joby Talbot. While it is written for dulcimer, the music required a portable chromatic instrument with a 3.3 octave range. I designed and built a new instrument with Tim Manning of Music Magic which we have called a dulcilom. The other members are Eliza Marshall, Ian Watson, Rob Farrer and Jez Wiles. The Royal Opera, Aldeburgh Music and Opera North brings forth two new chamber operas. This is the first time I have ever played a one player part that included cimbalom and percussion.
